I started out the week with the theory class in which we read Borgdorff's The Production of Knowledge in Artistic Research again.

Later this week, I wrote thin and thick descriptions of a self-chosen citation from the core text and our own work in progress.
This is a self study week in which I create my maquette.
I started out with a floorplan sketch
Which transformed into a second floorplan

I stayed with the 'real' idea I had from Jake's room. I made a colourscheme of the colours I remember seeing in his room via Teams and Zoom. I wrote down some notes of what I deemed the most important information I had about Jake.
I thought it was really important to work with wood, since Jake works with wood. So I started building with wood. He also mentioned his goal of having every furniture in the room be made by himself.

I used a lot of scraps. I used a piece of fake wooden floor as the underground, because Jake had mentioned he wished he had a wooden floor.

I felt like I was making it for Jake, like a present, so I felt a little pressure to make it 'nice'.
I added the colours that I remembered him having in his room. I remember the blue catching my eye, so it was quite important.

A windowsill detail.

I added all kinds of details with fabric, and clay. Books, plantpot, computer, bed and cabinet. I hated the cabinet, because its lines are so wobbly which makes it look like a fridge. So I remade it out of paper.
I wanted to, however, add an interesting element to the room. Jake's hobby is scuba diving, which I think is really cool. Since this is his bedroom, he might even be dreaming of scuba diving, so what if the room actually made him scuba dive?
Then I executed my original idea.
I didn't love how it turned out. The overwhelming wave that should have come over the Jake puppet, was not big enough. It was too sweet. So I decided to go all the way.
Which resulted in this FINAL piece.

Week 2

For my work >
While writing the thin/thick decription of Jake's room, I realised I think I may have liked an earlier version of the room better. Or at least, it may have fitted Jake more. During the writing of these descriptions, I started to notice the features of the room better and I didn't like how the colours made it a bit childish.
